BT announce the UK’s PSTN Network will now switch off in 2027
British Telecom (BT) have announced a revised date for the PSTN Switch Off with a 13-month extension, the new date is set for the end of January 2027. This is when BT intend to have all consumers and businesses off the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and onto Digital technology that uses an internet connection.
The date change was driven by improvements to the programme to better protect vulnerable people, including those who use telecare and pendants.
Regardless of the revised date, the BT PSTN Switch off is still coming! All legacy services that are still using the PSTN Network will need to be upgraded to Digital Technology that uses Internet Protocol (IP). The legacy services don’t just include PSTN and ISDN phone lines, it includes ADSL and FTTC Broadband connections that use the PSTN network.
We understand this event is daunting, contact us at Communications South and one of our experienced team will be able to check your services and guide you through the move to All IP Telephony.
